Corona Quiz Cancelled

2/9/2012

When the owner of the Corona got in touch to arrange a quiz night he said he would give it 4 weeks to see how it went.

Unfortunately in the 4 weeks we gave it, things weren't quite as busy as we would have liked, so they have cancelled their quiz.

A big thanks to all the teams who made it along, I thought with all the support and goodwill we had a chance to grow a good quiz night here - maybe next time.

All the best kittens - we'll hopefully see you around.

Will Evel Rory now buy Clintons Cards?

28/8/2012

Following Evel Rory's win tonight in Corona Bar there are rumours that they are going to use their £60 gift voucher fund to purchase an equity stake in Clintons Cards and force a takeover bid.

They will have no cash to invest, however, after The Beast wanged his evil tool up Evel and kept the cash for next week's £125 rollover extravaganza.

Unexplained Bacon took the round of applause tonight to save the blushes of NEW regular team Twa Baz. Tonight the Bazzers reinforced to the power of 3, but it couldn't stop the combined  might of Dr Crack & Evel Rory.

Champion of Champions quiz team Dr Crack's Face Splash brought their trophy in this week so everyone could see the power of their force. They led going into the final round, but Evel Rory powered ten points past them. In a climax that was reminiscent of a Labour landslide victory in Glasgow. Political.

Next week there's £125 reasons to try and beat The Beast - and you'll need to beat Clintons Cards lovers Evel Rory too!

Evel Rory claim second win in The Corona!

21/8/2012

Things quickly became a three horse race between a full strength Dumb Belles team, quiz newcomers Twa Baz, and former Corona quiz champs Evel Rory.

I was going to say "4 horse race" but it was obvious from the start that the 2 Nigels weren't about to win anything...
The Belles & Baz's looked to have it in the bag, but Evel Rory came from behind (how rude!) to win the quiz. Leapfrogging from 3rd place to the winner's podium. Not too shabby.

Twa Baz won the Fun Round with a list of four quick-fire gags fresh from a Jimmy Carr stand up routine. I'm fully expecting them to hand in a blank sheet for the next 3 weeks now.

Next week it's a £100 rollover because The Beast fucked us all in the ear.

Captain Fanny & Optimus Cock are Champions. Fact.

In the biggest bar in Shawlands this week Ben and Emma AKA Captain Fanny & Optimus Cock won the quiz. An historic day - after years of trying Optimus Cock has finally been in the winning team.

Here's a picture of the winners looking totally mental.
Are they possessed by the spirit of a ghost with jazz hands? Seems likely.

Despite the awesomeness of Cock and Fanny no-one could beat The Beast and so the money rolls over for Sir James to dish out next week - up to £75 now.

In other news there was a team of old dears who thought a picture of a goat was the Loch Ness Monster. No wonder they were judged funniest team. Handsfree Lightsabres came second for a change. And big sexy Sharon had the biggest erection. Oops pardon.

Sir James will be back next week after taking some time out to clean Michael Barrymore's pool and give  Graham Norton a big hand round the house too - he's back with the kind of top quality banter you only get in The Corona Monday nights.

Chowmein to that.

I don't want to give away too much. All I will say is prepare to be amazed and marvel at the top quality quiz pedigree of Captain Stu as he makes his Corona debut. Will someone win £50? He hopes so!

Sir James will be back with a suntan next week though, so don't get used to it!

Evel Rory claim first win in The Corona Bar!

A busy first night in The Corona with a few familiar faces from the Stube days of old. Ah the memories...

In fact it was an old Stube team that did the business with Evel Rory beating the Corona Regulars and winning £20 in shopping vouchers they can spend anywhere except Anne Summers.

One Corona regular had so much fun he gave a video testimonial. You can find his review of the night HERE.

Here's how it ended...
Evel Rory                Winners
50 Shades of Lilac  Funnest Team
Dickie's Diamonds
Handsfree Lightsabres
The Honeymonsters
Numpties
The Adventures of Captain Fanny and Optimus Cock
Elmer Fudd's Rabbit Fur Wank Glove Applause

You might have been forgiven for thinking Optimus Cock had won Olmpic Gold. Their full marks final round meant they missed the applause. Their celebration was EPIC.

No such cheering from Janet of Handsfree Ligtsabres, her psychic powers were strong, but The Beast was a bastard, so Captain Stu is caretaker quizmaster next week with a £50 rollover going down. Thanks to 50 Shades of Lilac here for their poster to advertise it.

Bowyakasha!

Sir James is here with £25 and some top quality vouchers to be won.
It's all go as the sequins return to Shawlands 8:30pm Mondays.

This week at the quiz there's Judy Garland, Saving Private Ryan and this actual question...

In Sport: What do the letters BOA stand for?
Hint: Not the kind of Boa pictured here by the way!

That should help you win the first ever Corona quiz and cheer up legendary barman Sean!

Campaign to Cheer Up Barman Sean starts here!

Poor Sean hasn't had a pub quiz before.
He's been barman in Corona 2 years and never had quiz on his face... Imagine.

That's like being a gardener who doesn't have any flowers in their garden. Poor chap. No wonder he's feeling so sad and abandoned.

You can almost see the tears of neglect in his eyes. But don't worry Sean, we'll bring a pub quiz to you that will make you feel EPIC.

If you're coming along to help cheer Sean up, then a word of warning - don't try to order a cocktail. Sean's a no nonsense kind of barman. In his own words "We don't do cocktails". Right you are Sean.

Closest thing you can get is a Southern Comfort and Lemonade. So I'll be having one of those I think.
With a straw.
And an umbrella.
And a cherry if he has one - oops pardon!

Only 6 days to go Sean, then all your dreams come true...
