Sir James's Vinyl Bar
A wedding jukebox with a record-shop twist.
Real 12-inch records. Real record covers. Real requests. And my collection of sequin jackets for guests to try on!
Hosted by Sir James, this interactive music experience lets your wedding guests browse a collection of vinyl records, pick out their favourites and hand over their requests as well as trying on a few sequins themselves.
It's perfect for the time between your ceremony and evening celebrations — giving guests something fun, nostalgic and interactive to enjoy while they mingle, drink and chat.
Sir James will be on hand to play the requests, chat music and keep the soundtrack flowing.
And there's no need to choose between old-school vinyl and modern DJing. If a request isn't available on vinyl, it can be played digitally from the DJ setup instead. Your own playlist, special songs and must-play favourites are welcome too.
You get the tactile experience of vinyl with all the flexibility of a modern DJ.
Love your own record collection? Sir James can even include a selection of your own 12-inch records in the display for guests to browse and choose from.

FAQ's
Can I choose what records are available?
Not completely - and that's part of the fun!
Sir James's Vinyl Bar is designed around a carefully selected mix of well-known favourites, classics, party records and general-interest music that will appeal to a wide range of wedding guests.
The idea is that guests can browse, discover something they recognise and perhaps even find a record they haven't heard for years.
However, if you're a couple with particular musical tastes, you can also add a selection of your own 12-inch records to the display. These can be clearly labelled as The Couple's Collection, allowing guests to discover some of your more personal or niche favourites alongside the general collection. So it's a combination of Sir James's collection + your own musical personality.
What records are supplied?
The list of records will vary from time to time as Sir James is always updating and improving his collection.
Contact Sir James for details if you need to know full details of the current vinyl selection.
Can I supply my own records?
Absolutely. You can provide a selection of your own 12-inch records to be incorporated into the display. This is a great way to add some personal musical history to your wedding. We'll clearly identify your records so they can be separated from Sir James's collection and returned to you afterwards. One word of caution: personal records are included at the owner's risk, so we recommend leaving the genuinely rare, irreplaceable or extremely valuable records safely at home. Yes, this does mean that the first pressing you've been protecting since 1983 probably doesn't need a day out at your wedding! A maximum of 25 additional 12 inch records can be added to the display.
Can my guests choose the music?
That's the whole point!
Guests are encouraged to browse the records, choose something they like and make a request to Sir James.
It creates a much more interactive experience than simply having music playing in the background.
And, of course, Sir James remains in charge of the decks — so you won't suddenly find Great Aunt Margaret attempting to DJ the wedding.
What if someone requests a song that isn't on vinyl?
No problem. If a requested song isn't available in the Vinyl Bar collection, Sir James can play it digitally from the laptop instead.
So the vinyl provides the experience, interaction and nostalgia, while the digital DJ setup provides the choice and flexibility.
You don't have to choose between having a brilliant vinyl experience and having all your favourite songs available.
Can we give you a list of songs we would like to hear or records we'd like included?
Yes you can provide a playlist for Sir James to work with - particularly if there are a few songs or artists that are important to you.
The Vinyl Bar record selection has a crowd pleasing mix of accessible, recognisable records and funky choices and can be supplemented by your digital playlist choices. It's an interactive experience as well as background music for your party, so if you have a handful of personal favourites, or a longer list, Sir James will happily work with you to incorporate them where possible.
What sort of records are in the Vinyl Bar?
The collection is designed to have something for everyone.
Expect a mixture of recognisable classics, popular music, party favourites, guilty pleasures and records that are simply great to look at.
The exact collection will vary, and that's intentional.
Part of the experience is browsing and discovering what's there, rather than knowing exactly what you're going to find.
Can I request a particular record in advance?
Yes, you can let Sir James know about a playlist or important songs or artists before the wedding.
If something isn't available on vinyl, it will still be possible to play it digitally.
The Vinyl Bar isn't intended to be a bespoke record-shop service where every requested song is guaranteed to be physically available on vinyl - it's the combination of the curated collection and digital DJ flexibility that makes it work.
Do guests actually handle the records?
Records are in protective sleeves and guests can enjoy browsing the record covers and choose what they'd like to hear - the vinyl itself is handled and played by Sir James.
This helps protect the records and keeps the Vinyl Bar running smoothly.
Think of it as a record shop where the shopkeeper also happens to be your DJ.
How long does the Vinyl Bar operate?
The Vinyl Bar is designed primarily for the period between your ceremony and evening reception.
It can also be used for background music pre-ceremony at additional cost.
It isn't intended to operate as a late-night DJ experience.
Once the Vinyl Bar closes, the records will be packed away and the display tables can be repurposed for something else — perhaps a guest book, camera/Polaroid station, candy bar, glow sticks, wedding favours or another evening activity.
Can the Vinyl Bar be used outside?
The Vinyl Bar is designed for indoor use only.
It can be used in a marquee, barn or other suitable enclosed and weather-protected space, but the equipment and records cannot be exposed to rain or adverse weather.
Does it need electricity?
Yes. The Vinyl Bar requires access to a standard mains power socket near the setup location.
We'll discuss the best position with you or your venue beforehand.
Is this suitable if we don't really know much about vinyl?
Absolutely!
You don't need to be a vinyl collector to enjoy the Vinyl Bar.
In fact, you don't even need to own a record player.
The Vinyl Bar is about the experience of browsing album artwork, spotting familiar records, sharing musical memories and choosing what you'd like to hear. If you're a serious vinyl nerd, you'll hopefully love it.
If you just remember buying records at Woolworths, HMV or your local record shop, you'll hopefully love it too.
Can we use the Vinyl Bar as part of our evening reception?
The Vinyl Bar itself is designed as an earlier-day experience rather than late-night entertainment.
However, once the records are packed away, the tables can be reused for another purpose during the evening.
If you've booked Sir James for your DJ/Disco as well, the Vinyl Bar therefore doesn't have to take up valuable space for the whole day.
Is the Vinyl Bar a DJ?
Yes - but it's a bit more than that.
It's a hosted, interactive music experience combining a curated collection of real vinyl with Sir James's digital DJ setup.
The vinyl is the attraction. The requests are the interaction. Sir James is the host.
And when the perfect record isn't in the collection, the laptop is there to save the day.
Is the Vinyl Bar suitable for every wedding?
Most weddings! It's particularly suited to couples who love music, gigs, festivals, records and a bit of nostalgia.
It's also great if you want something that encourages guests to interact rather than simply watch.
If your idea of a perfect wedding involves a great soundtrack, people chatting about music and someone saying “Oh my God, I LOVE this song!” across the room, you're probably our kind of couple.
Some venues will be too small (sorry) there does need to be good activity space within the venue for record browsing and requests.
